The Arnold Volunteer Fire Department held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, February 29, at Grazers.
Guests that were able to join department members and their spouses were: rural board member, Don Olson and his wife Carol; retired member Nancy Cool and her husband Ron; and our speaker Carol Jorgenson, the Central Region EMS Coordinator from Elm Creek.
Carol spoke to the department about the history of how fire departments and emergency medical services were started in our country, in Custer County and in Arnold. In researching the history of Arnold she found out that Arnold Volunteer Fire Department has been around for 120 years.
Teamwork seemed to be the theme for the night as both Fire Chief Eric Nelson and Rescue Captain Tammy Weinman, spoke to the department members and guests.
The Arnold Volunteer Fire Department had a busy year with 67 total calls. Among those calls, six were fire calls and 61 were ambulance calls.
The Fireman of the Year award went to Cameron Meyer and Runner-Up Fireman of the Year was Andrew Tickle. Heather Hagler was named EMT of the Year, with Andrew Tickle being named Runner Up EMT of the Year.
Tammy Weinman was honored for her 20 years of service on the Department and received her 20 Year Pin.
